Canadian Oil Security is recruiting an experienced individual for a permanent contract role as a traffic controller within the Grande Prairie region. This position offers camp-style accommodations.

Summary of job

As a traffic controller, you’ll be responsible for enforcing the license of occupation (LOC) regulations, and ensuring authorized use of oilfield roads. Using VHF 2-way radio communication, you will identify drivers and prevent access for undocumented or unauthorized road users, aligning with the Government of Alberta’s LOC guidelines and oil companies’ requirements.


  • Verify compliance of all drivers with the road use agreement
  • Conduct orientations for road users, ensuring understanding and adherence to guidelines
  • Report any driver misconduct promptly to Management and the appropriate department
  • Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental protocols outlined by the prime contractor.
  • Maintain cleanliness in office and living quarters, including floors, countertops, and windows.
  • Confirm that all traffic possesses a VHF 2-way radio and adheres to proper radio communication protocols.
  • Immediately report any incidents to the prime contractor.
  • Commute daily for 15 minutes to the workplace
  • Maintain perfect attendance, 100% punctuality.


  • Successfully complete the ABST course and maintain a valid Security Guard License issued by the Solicitor General’s office.
  • Adhere strictly to the code of conduct outlined by the Solicitor General for security guards.
  • Proactively prevent unauthorized traffic from entering the designated area by knowing and understanding traffic and locations.
  • Uphold professional conduct and demonstrate integrity in all actions and interactions.
  • Undergo drug and alcohol tests as necessary and consistently pass these tests.

Equipment and skills required

  • Professional demeanor, displaying maturity, confidence, and strong communication skills.
  • Proficient in active listening while simultaneously writing or typing.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed during emergency situations.
  • Collaborative mindset, working effectively within a team to discover solutions.
  • Possession of a valid class 5 driver’s license.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Access to a personal laptop equipped with Microsoft Office and familiarity with Microsoft Teams.
  • Moderate computer proficiency, including typing skills and familiarity with Excel.
  • Good physical health to complete shifts without requiring medical assistance.
  • Dependable vehicle suitable for navigating winter conditions.
  • Strong housekeeping skills for maintaining cleanliness and organization.

Experience required

  • Oilfield experience: 1 year

Preferred Experience

  • 3 years of office-based experience.
  • Proficiency in using 2-way radio communication.
  • Certifications in H2S, First Aid/CPR, CS Orientation, and WHMIS.
  • Possession of an Alberta or BC Security License.
  • Previous roles in camp positions, oilfield security, service administration, or as a medic are advantageous.

The schedule for this position follows a three-week rotation, involving continual rotating shifts lasting 12 hours each.
